9. Darren Drozdov
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqdKteq15aY A big athletic man, Darren Drozdov started off his career in the NFL. He played for the New York Jets and the Denver Broncos. He had a bit of a problem though, he was always throwing up on the field and this disgusted his fellow players. He found a home in the WWE after impressing McMahon by randomly puking into a bin. He was thus christened 'Puke'. Drozdov served out the late 90s as a third wheel in the Legion of Doom, a troubled relationship due to Hawk's alcoholism. After leaving the LOD, Droz assembled together a clutch of bizarre wrestlers into a stable and turned heel. His career was on the way up. On October 5th 1999, Drozdov was in a match against D'Lo Brown. Outside of the ring, Brown went to do his signature power bomb move on Droz but this move was not executed properly and Droz landed on the concrete on his head - fracturing two vertebrae in his neck. He was rushed to hospital and underwent major surgery on his neck. The match was not live and was never broadcast to the public. Initially Droz was completely paralysed from the neck down - making him quadriplegic. He has since regained some power in his arms. He still works for the WWE, writing articles for the WWE magazine and website - he is a recurring guest on Byte This. He ran into controversy with the Ultimate Warrior who infamously called him 'the cripple' after an invitation to go on Byte This. The Ultimate Warrior had been enraged by the DVD release - The Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior - and this may have provoked his thoughtless insult. With so many wrestlers dead before their time - each death is a bitter tragedy. You may wonder why I have included Droz in the list with so many tragic deaths. I wanted to showcase a different type of personal tragedy - what happens when wrestling manoeuvres go wrong and the danger that professional wrestlers put themselves in every time they get into the ring. Many people immediately dismiss wrestling as fake, but the true fans know that wrestling requires considerable careful choreography and a great deal of athleticism. Put a foot wrong - and you can see from the Droz accident - the consequences can invoke considerable personal tragedy. Thankfully, Droz is making the best of a cruel hand fate dealt him.
