WWE: 10 Worst Intercontinental Title Matches To Watch On The WWE Network

2. Santino Marella © vs. Honky Tonk Man: Cyber Sunday 2008

Results: Honky Tonk Man defeated Santino by disqualification when Beth Phoenix tripped the "Greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time" in 1:06. Highlight: After the match, Marella faced a beatdown by the three legends the fans got to vote on: Honky, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, and Goldust. Lowlight: A DQ finish by tripping from outside the ring one minute into the match?!? Review: If you don't remember the Taboo Tuesday/Cyber Sunday format, let me remind you: the fans were presented with three choices to vote on to decide the matches. (Now they do it every Monday with the WWE App.) For Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella, his opponent for the evening would be one of three legends: ultimately, the fans voted on Honky Tonk Man. Honky, for his part, attempted to start the match with an impromptu dance-party, which Marella initially agreed to, but quickly forsake in exchange for a sucker punch. A few punches and an Irish whip later, the match was over: Beth Phoenix tripped up Honky in full view of the referee for the disqualification. At least the fans were given a parting-gift of sorts, as Goldust and Piper entered the ring to hit a Final Cut and eye poke respectively, and Honky got to deliver the Shake, Rattle, and Roll neckbreaker. How it could have been better: The U.S. Champion Shelton Benjamin wrestled on the preshow, and the fans were given the option of M.V.P., Festus, and the winner R-Truth. Swap the placement of these matches on the card, so no one technically would have had to have paid to see this.
