WWE: 10 Worst WrestleMania Matches In History

1. Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler - WrestleMania XXVII

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Mz_KW_SACY Just one year later, the WWE managed to out-do themselves and top just how abysmal Bret vs. Vince was. Given the longest build for WrestleMania XXVII (spanning back to the November) and featuring heavily in what seemed like every single broadcast, this match between two commentators was disgustingly the biggest grudge match and feud for the event. Although occassionally humourous with his outbursts on NXT, Michael Cole's heel persona in late 2010 and 2011 overshadowed everything else in the company, agonising to the point where I hit the mute button. Instead of calling the action, Cole and Lawler resorted to childish endless bickering that took all focus away from the real superstars. Starting with Cole's love for The Miz and costing Lawler the WWE Championship in a TLC match (something in itself beyond belief), things escalated to include deplorable insults about Lawler's late mother. When the inevitable was eventually made official, Stone Cold Steve Austin ruled himself as special referee. How ironic that this list of worsts contains two matches being officiated by the greatest. When the match itself came around, it was the stuff of nightmares. Worse than imagined. Somehow managing to last even longer than Bret/Vince, this match length took priority over two wrestlers in their prime in Bryan and Sheamus who got bumped to the dark match. Despite some early offence by "the King", a lot of the match was controlled by Cole. Let that sink in; a broadcast journalist with zero wrestling experience is controlling a match at WrestleMania. No wonder the crowd was up in arms. Just like Bret, Lawler flirted with the possibility of ending it 'early' before belatedly making Cole tap out to an Ankle Lock. But it didn't even stop there. The ridiculous 'anonymous GM' reversed the decision due to Austin interference, making the entire match utterly meaningless. Then we had a few Stunners, Spinaroonies and beer bashing in this unremitting pain. Every single second was torture. Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler is, without doubt, the worst match WrestleMania has ever seen. (Special mentions go to: Kane vs Great Khali, John Cena vs JBL, Bret Hart vs Bob Backlund, Lawrence Taylor vs Bam Bam, Mr T vs Roddy Piper and Boogeyman vs Booker T & Sharmell.)
