WWE: 10 Superstars Who Will Likely Be Released In 2014
4. Layla
Layla may be out with injury right now, but when (if) she returns, it may not be for long. Simply put, Layla is a 36-year old woman in WWE. That's ancient for the divas division. It's not fair, but it's true. Only Rosa Mendes (34) and Tamina (36) are in her age bracket, as the rest of the division is five years younger or more. The biggest names the division ever had in Trish Stratus and Lita were long since retired by that age. There is no precedence of a female Ric Flair in the major leagues, who was still competing regularly into their 50s. It's doubtful that Layla will be the one to do that. Another strike against Layla is that she's had a hard time getting over on her own. When she was aligned with Michelle McCool, her act worked, but as a singles star, the crowd just doesn't seem to care. She's the most tenured of any WWE Diva, but that doesn't seem to get her a lot of respect. Maybe she'll get a new character and another chance when she returns, but it's probably more likely that we'll see her in meaningless tag matches for the rest of her career.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
