WWE: 10 Superstars Who Will Likely Be Released In 2014
5. Curtis Axel
The son of Perfect may have to start getting up early to find the perfect spot in the unemployment line by year's end. If Curtis Axel was going to get over on his own, it would have happened by now. He couldn't even get over with the help of Paul Heyman, who has done wonders for the careers of many wrestlers who weren't the complete package. Now on his own, Axel is in no man's land. WWE seems to have given up completely on him becoming a star. Who would have guessed this summer that Axel would flop so hard, so fast, that he wouldn't even be one of the 30 entrants in the Royal Rumble? When Axel first debuted, he was given the horrific name of Michael McGillicutty. Fans pleaded for the name to be dropped so he could be taken seriously. Finally, their wish was granted, but it didn't matter. Axel is a solid worker, but he just doesn't have the charisma for fans to either love or hate him with passion. He's just kind of there, and kind of boring. At 34 years old, Axel is probably running out of chances at getting over. He's 0-for-2 so far, and WWE may not be very interested in a third attempt.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
