WWE: 11 Biggest Mistakes Creative Made In 2013

4. Ryback's Pay Per View Losing Streak

Ryback It seems hard to believe now, but in the fall of 2012, Ryback was the most over star in World Wrestling Entertainment. His quick punishing style and fearsome presence had put the rookie on an impressive undefeated streak. He ended up getting the biggest reactions of the entire roster, with huge "feed me more" chants accompanying him to the ring. The reward for his quick rise to fame was a WWE title series with CM Punk that closed out 2012 - and but for Punk's pre-booked Rumble match with The Rock, chances are Ryback would have won the title. Fast forward a year and Ryback has fallen back to earth with a bang. WWE creative changed his character from a hero to what can only be described as a low intelligence bully. Ryback was made to look simple and stupid. He went from being the hottest act in the WWE to being the most loathed. The booking team made sure his momentum was murdered by continuously booking him as a loser, and he now stands as one of the most ineffective acts in WWE as 2013 closes. The perception of a dumb loser has stuck. WWE had a huge break through star on their hands, and through creative folly they have destroyed all potential. The pay per view losing streak sums up Ryback's descent. He had spent most of 2012 unbeaten, but ended the year losing three times in a row on pay per view. Fair enough on that, Punk had to move on to Rock. Surely though creative would have looked to keep Ryback's momentum going as he came out of the title picture? They did at first. Ryback finished runner up in the Royal Rumble, which is a fair achievement despite it being another ppv loss. From there it was downhill. Ryback was pinned at Elimination Chamber, and then lost to Mark Henry at Mania 29. That result was a true travesty - that was the night Ryback should have been pushed big as the hero who body slammed Henry. The Nevada native instead turned heel and lost at the next couple of pay per views to John Cena. It was an 8 match pay per view losing streak before Ryback finally got a win on ppv against Chris Jericho at Money in the bank - he has since gone on to lose three more pay per view bouts. Fair enough he isn't a great wrestler. But the character was over, and the WWE killed it.
