Eugene was one of the most controversial WWE characters ever, a special needs wrestler, who was hotly over with crowds due to his naivety and comedic value. The thing with a gimmick like 'special needs', the novelty was always going to wear off quick, not helped by the fact Triple H unceremoniously squashed the babyface at SummerSlam 2004 (after weeks of bullying in which Eugene really should have won revenge). For the man playing Eugene, Nick Dinsmore, his personal life also took a tumble. Like others on this list who have ended up becoming backstage employees, Dinsmore had a substance abuse problem. He was released from WWE in 2007, due to failing a second company drug test. The story has a happy ending for Dinsmore, he cleaned himself up, returning to WWE in 2013 as a trainer for NXT. That's right, the man who plays Eugene is back working inside the WWE. Does this mean we will shortly see a Eugene cameo on WWE TV? Possibly. The company has certainly gone down this route for one-offs with the likes of I.R.S and Jamie Noble. A Eugene return would certainly be good for a pop. The one thing stopping it could be that Dinsmore is enjoying his trainer job so much, plus, his hair is now smartly cut back. As Eugene and the rest of this list prove, there's life in WWE after wrestling if you work at it. The next generation of stars are all benefiting greatly from yesterday's stars.
