WWE: 11 Reasons Brock Lesnar Breaking The Streak Is Justified

10. It's Still A Fantastic Retirement Match

Building on that last point, just because the in-ring work was cringe-worthy to watch does not mean that the match itself was an unbearable waste of time. This match told a story, but there's one defining factor setting it apart from other matches grounded in ring psychology; this time the story being told in the ring was as real as professional wrestling can get. It was painstakingly obvious that this was a man who didn't have the physicality left in him to work a wrestling match. Truthfully though, that's a perfect storybook ending climax to the plot arc that WWE has been building towards and expanding on for years. It's only fitting that Taker's retirement match comes from a bout that nails home the fact that he is incapable of competing at even an average level anymore. The logical kicker and exclamation point on that story arc is for the retirement match to come in a shocking defeat that breaks the streak. There is simply no better way to promote an unofficial retirement match from Taker then having his outstanding achievement cracked. Retirement matches are also significantly more special when the competitors competing against each other deeply respect each other both in and outside the squared circle, which Taker and Brock Lesnar clearly do.
