WWE: 11 Reasons Brock Lesnar Breaking The Streak Is Justified

5. The Shock Factor

Taking into account that last point, it makes a great deal of sense to go against the grain and what the world is expecting, to create the single most shocking moment in all of professional wrestling. There are a lot of newspapers and sites - including us - playfully poking fun at the collective shock of the live audience, but here's a question; even though all of those bewildered facial expressions are hilarious, were they really any different from your own faces? In addition to the natural shock of the referee's arms coming down three times beside a downed Undertaker, WWE wholeheartedly knew what they were doing was unpredictable and unbelievable, so they played off the moment with a plethora of genus ideas. There was no immediate announcement of Brock Lesnar being the victor, his music theme wasn't playing instantly after the pinfall, and Michael Cole stricken with superbly expressed disbelief only had one thing to say: "the streak... is over." This level of shock wouldn't have generated in a more predictable environment, and the key ingredient to the unpredictability is predominantly Brock Lesnar. A modern star like CM Punk realistically had a chance at making history in the public eye considering that the victory would have been built pushing a career to the moon. Meanwhile, someone like Brock Lesnar is a part-timer with no real investment emotionally in professional wrestling. Outside of picking someone completely ridiculous like a jobber, Lesnar fit the bill as the most shocking candidate to break the streak.
