While the saga of Pepper was certainly memorable, the idea of dognapping was nothing new in WWE. Over a decade earlier saw the debut, and heist, of another well-known WWE animal sidekick. The British Bulldogs debuted their mascot, a real bulldog named Matilda, in 1986. Matilda quickly became one of the most popular and fondly remembered animal in all of wrestling, accompanying the tag team to all their matches. As one might guess, Matilda soon found herself a distraction to her masters: The Islanders, led by Bobby Heenan, kidnapped the innocent pup and she became the centerpiece of a feud between the two teams, with Bobby Heenan continually taunting the Bulldogs over the well being of the animal. Despite being one of the best tag teams in WWE history for their ring work, the British Bulldogs will also be tied, for better or worse, to their bulldog sidekick making her land high on this list.
