WWE: 12 Moments That Genuinely Almost Ended Undertaker's Streak

For the 23+ years that The Undertaker has been contracted by WWE, he has to yet to lose at a WrestleMania. What started out as a simple string of victories against the likes of Jimmy Snuka and King Kong Bundy has escalated into one of the most coveted aspects of contemporary wrestling, and with the streak sitting at an unbelievable 21-0, speculation surrounding its continuation seems to run rampant around this time of year. Some matches, like the ones contested earlier in his career, were not exactly tough ones from which to emerge victorious - Taker was riding the crest of a wave and was in physically impressive shape, cutting an intimidating figure with his career ahead of him, but as the streak grows the competition seems to get tougher and the near falls get even closer. Over the past ten years, WWE has become famous for always inserting one or two moments per match where it seems like Taker's streak is legitimately about to come to an end. As we gear up for what is bound to be a brutal match with Brock Lesnar in a few weeks, let's count down the top 12 moments that seriously threatened the greatest streak in wrestling history.

12. Edge's Spear - WrestleMania 24

Going into this match with Edge, it didn't seem like Edge had much of a chance to take down Undertaker; despite being the reigning World Heavyweight Champion at the time, it was apparent that he was not his hardest WM opponent thus far by any means. As the surprisingly physical match wore on though, it became strange to see Edge kick out of everything that Taker had to throw at him. First he kicked out of the Chokeslam, then a Last Ride, then a Tombstone - though, granted, it took the referee a really long time to start the count, and then immediately after Edge kicked out of the Tombstone, his lackeys Hawkins and Ryder came down to the ring to interfere with little success. Their distraction was enough for Edge to set up a sickening spear that laid Taker out, but in typical Taker fashion, he was able to barely get the shoulder up before the 3 count. Edge would attempt a second spear that would inevitably be countered into the Hell's Gate. Edge quickly tapped to relinquish his world title and his hopes of ending Taker's 15 match winning streak. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd4tWXzd7P0
