WWE: 13 Hilariously Bad Gimmick Matches

10. Strip Matches

The premise of these matches - as the Strip Match tends to cover a number of match types - remain the same: in order to win, one wrestler (or manager or valet) has to strip the other down to their underwear. They were the matches that wrestling fans were embarrassed to be watching when their friends or family members were around. In the mid to late nineties (and early millennial) these matches were used as either comedy segments or eye candy to give audience members something else, which was needed when you consider the limited sex appeal of Howard Finkel versus Harvey Wippleman. While there were some laughs to be had on occasion (having a drink or two must have helped,) these matches were mostly inane filler that focused more on other "assets" that had nothing to do with professional wrestling itself. Yet whether it was a tuxedo match, an evening gown match, or a bra and panties match, it was certainly an effective way of boosting up the ratings while giving the fans something that's so bad it might just be good.
