WWE: 15 Memorable Staples Center Moments

13. Feb 7th 2002, Smackdown - The Road To WrestleMania X8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ5ocf2KV6c After the smoke had cleared on the Invasion storyline, the WWF embarked on a new era as they headed into 2002. Team WWF defeated the Alliance once and for all, but to Vince McMahon€™s surprise, a returning Ric Flair became co owner of the company. Chris Jericho had been crowned the first ever undisputed WWF Champion and Triple H had just returned from a serious injury for the first time in months. Added to this, the n.W.o were about to make their controversial return to the organization. This episode of Smackdown took place in the Staples Center, between the Royal Rumble and No Way Out pay per views of 2002. The most promoted storyline of the moment was the marriage problems facing HHH and Stephanie. Things had been frosty since HHH returned but things seemed better on Raw when Stephanie announced she was pregnant. So, on this episode of Smackdown, Kurt Angle decided to have a bit of a baby shower for Triple H. Kurt told the expectant father that he knew what his son would look like, and showed the world a gorilla soft toy dressed in Triple H t-shirt and nappy with a massive joke nose attached to further insult his rival. The child even spoke his first words, €œI am the baby game!€ He then declared his present of baby bananas, €œthat damn good.€ As expected, Triple H wasn€™t too pleased and he assaulted Angle in retaliation. This led to a main event encounter that forced the Game into a handicap match against Kurt Angle and the Undisputed Champion, Chris Jericho. Speaking of the champion, Jericho had an eventful night of his own. Scheduled to face Stone Cold at No Way Out ten days later, Jericho decided to try and insult the Rattlesnake ahead of their match. Feigning that he was bringing Austin to the ring, Jericho instead brought out Mad TV star Will Sasso, doing his best Stone Cold impression. Jericho berated the faux Stone Cold, while he made fun of Austin€™s propensity for asking questions. It wasn€™t long before the real Stone Cold stormed to the ring for a €œconversation,€ with his doppelganger. After deducting that Sasso didn€™t smell like beer, Austin decided he needed to share a beer with him. Instead, he received a stunner, sending a message to Jericho for No way Out.
