WWE: 15 Memorable Staples Center Moments

12. Unforgiven 2002 - "The First Staples Center Pay Per View"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfCCUTl2_vw Unforgiven was the first WWE PPV to ever be held at the Staple€™s Center. Taking place during the brand extension of 2002, it featured matches from both Raw and Smackdown and was headlined by world title matches from each show. On the Smackdown side of things, the youngest champion of all time, Brock Lesnar put his newly won title on the line against the Undertaker. This was an entertaining, hard hitting, bloody brawl, with an unfortunately dissatisfying finish for the live crowd. After twenty minutes of action, the two took their fight to the excess, and the main event match ended in a double disqualification. Post match, Undertaker tried to make up for the finish by chucking Brock through the Unforgiven set. They went on to have one of the most graphic Hell in a Cell matches ever a month later at No Mercy. As for the Raw main event, Triple H defended his title against fan favourite, Rob Van Dam. Fans at this point were more than ready to see €œMr Pay Per View,€ RVD win the World Title, but on this night it was not to be. This was a good match, which proved once again that RVD could hang with the main eventers, but Triple H took the win after interference from Ric Flair. This marked the first time that Flair and Triple H became a team, and planted the seeds for what would become Evolution. Stealing the show however was undoubtedly the wrestling clinic put on by Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle. Although not close to their historic match at Royal Rumble 2003, this was another top match and a master class in technical wrestling. Fans in LA were treated to a fast paced, back and forth match full of suplexes, submissions and reversals before Benoit finally took the pin near the 14 minute mark thanks to unlawful leverage from the ropes.
