WWE: 15 Memorable Staples Center Moments

9. Judgment Day 2004 - Eddie vs JBL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABhX9mDDS0Y Judgment Day in 2004 was the next major event held at the Staples Center. While the debut of Mordecai on the card won€™t go down as one of the WWE€™s most stellar debuts, the card was not without its memorable moments. The most lasting image of the night is no doubt the brutal main event between Eddie Guerrero and John Bradshaw Layfield. The Staples Center name almost took on a new meaning as Eddie no doubt needed a few staples to close the cut he received in the match. The contest quickly took a turn for the worse once the referee was knocked out, and spilled to the outside. After fighting across the announce table, JBL smashed Guerrero with a sickening chair shot that busted the champion open and left him busted open worse than anyone ever seen on a wrestling Pay Per View before. If the Great Muta set the standard for horrible gushing blood loss, Eddie Guerrero raised the bar this night, needing a transfusion after the match to make up for all the plasma he lost in the ring. Unbelievably he was able to complete the match, and in the process even took more weapon shots and violent looking Clothesline From Hell. Against all odds and wearing the famous €œcrimson mask,€ Eddie rallied back, but got himself disqualified after blatantly smashing JBL with the belt in front of the ref. He got his revenge after the bell by blasting JBL with two stiff chair shots and hitting a Frog Splash on a canvas that had become coated in blood. Despite the DQ finish, it was a brutally memorable match, which maybe stands as a shining example of why the company cut down on such graphic violence and chair shots to the head.
