11. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper vs Bret 'Hitman' Hart (WrestleMania VIII)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKYSqp8ZvN8 It's harrowing and depressing to think of how little the Intercontinental Title means in current day WWE. When you remember back to when the top names in the industry such as Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior would wear the IC Belt proudly as a sure fire sign that they were on their way up to the WWF's top belt, it established the Intercontinental Title as a meaningful championship worth holding. In 1990, shortly after Warrior vacated the Title in such a circumstance, Mr. Perfect was the next one chosen to take up the mantel of being the IC Champ and in doing so set about a period in WWE where being the Intercontinental Champion went hand in hand with being a tremendous worker, whom, 8 times out of 10, would have the longest and best matches of any given WWE card. Wrestlemania VIII's IC Title bout between Bret Hart and a resurgent Roddy Piper was no exception, staking its claim to Match of the Night status, despite receiving relatively tame promotion, in spite of an extremely effective storyline- that being whether Piper would turn heel to retain his title against the upstart Hart. Not only serving to further elevate the status of an already pristine IC Title, this match and another certain one later that same year at Summerslam, served to prove to Vince McMahon that Hart was worthy of a run as the company's top dog. He would go on to win the WWF Championship in the Fall of that same year- 1992.
