WWE: 15 Most Important Undercard Matches In WrestleMania History

8. Bret Hart vs Owen Hart (WrestleMania X)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV2E8unK0eQ An opening bout to any given card ideally should be an energetic, fast-paced affair with some smooth wrestling and a few glossy spots, to start the event on the right note. What it probably should not be is the best damn match of the night, simply because the only way then, is down. To compensate for a daft finish at the 1994 Royal Rumble in which both Bret Hart and Lex Luger were chosen as Co-Winners, Vince's idea for the event was to have heel champion Yokozuna defend the WWF Title twice, first against Lex and the winner then against Bret Hart- whom he'd, wisely, chosen to win it. To even out the odds, Bret was equally booked in a second match against his bitter and jealous brother, Owen and the two looked to open Wrestlemania X on a high. Just as 'Mania XX a decade later would become a night of history, one of the major pieces of history written at this event was that of a change in focus amidst WWE programming. Following Vince McMahon's steroid trial of 1994, WWE shifted its focus away from the epic, massive battles of limited but equally epic and massive men to that of good wrestling and whilst business in the mid-90s for WWE might have tanked, it certainly led to some classic matches, many of them involving poster boy Bret Hart. His opening bout with Owen at this event, recently included in WWE's own list of the top 10 'Mania matches ever, stands as the truest testament to this movement. It also won several Match of the Year awards and has, rightfully, become regarded since as an all-time classic of WWE's rich and ever-expanding history.
