WWE: 15 Reasons The Undertaker Streak Ended At WrestleMania 30
4. All Storylines Have Conclusion
John Bradshaw Layfield on commentary was correct "streak's are made to be broken." It's true, from a creative point of view, all narrative needs to have a pay off. The streak was a great two decade long storyline, but if Undertaker had retired undefeated it would have all been rather pointless. Sure, it would have gave Calaway a nice distinction, but this is a fictional wrestling gimmick - it never actually really meant anything to Calaway as a person. What was he going to do, hang up a poster saying 22-0 on his fireplace? No, the streak was what it was, a storytelling device which helped draw money. With Undertaker no longer competing, it had little use as something to remain intact. In contrast, the streak being broken signifies the end of the Undertaker character story. It also gives Brock Lesnar a new lease of life and stories to pursue. Another Undertaker win would have never done those things.
