WWE: 15 Reasons The Undertaker Streak Ended At WrestleMania 30
15. The Time Honoured Tradition Of The Wrestling Business
Remember when Bret Hart didn't do the honours on his WWF departure in 1997? Everyone said the same thing, "It's the time honoured tradition in the wrestling business to put your opponent over on the way out." It's an old school way of doing things, but it has rung true for several big name wrestlers. Shawn Michaels lost on his in-ring exit from the WWE, Steve Austin did the job in his last match, Ric Flair retired on a loss. When you're done with pro wrestling, the unwritten rule is you leave it in the ring and pass your heat on to the next guy. Undertaker is as old school as they come, which explains why he decided to lose against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30. He believes in the traditional philosophy he was brought up on, and that called for him to do the honours for his opponent when his own time was over. Mark Calaway could see his career coming to an end and didn't want to leave the ring with a betrayal of his values. He did the job because it was the right thing to do from the old-guard mentality.
