7. Royal Rumble 2006
To show how awful this event was, just know this: The Royal Rumble match wasn't even the main event of the card. As a matter of fact, it wasn't even second from the top. Nope, the main event of the 2006 Royal Rumble pay-per-view was Kurt Angle defending his title against Mark Henry (managed by Daivari) in a 10 minute match. The Rumble match that year was won by Rey Mysterio in a move that WWE probably wishes they could take back. Riding the coattails of Eddie Guerrero's death, Rey was pushed to the main event despite a complete lack of size and main event credibility. Look, I get it, the kids love Rey Mysterio and buy all of his merchandise and masks. However, the guy looks like he's in 9th grade and no one buys that he has a chance against huge guys like John Cena and Batista. So Rey Mysterio wins the Royal Rumble, last eliminating Triple H because why not, and goes on to win the world heavyweight title at Wrestlemania. The problem was that no cared, not even a little bit. This might be due to the fact that the Rumble match included such "stars" as: Road Warrior Animal, Simon Dean, Sylvan Grenier, Tatanka, Trevor Murdoch, Eugene, Jonathan Coachman, and Chris Masters. The Royal Rumble is a very difficult match to screw up just because the live crowds love it and the people view it as the second-most important event outside of Wrestlemania. The fact that WWE placed the Rumble match so low on the card shows their lack of confidence in Rey Mysterio and probably should have been a big red flag for this event.
