WWE: 15 Worst Pay-Per-Views Ever

4. Royal Rumble 2014

The most recent entry on our list, Royal Rumble 2014 took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and all of the fans in attendance (myself included) will never forget that night. Before the pay-per-view even began, chants of "Daniel Bryan" filled the arena and the live crowd was chomping at the bit to cheer their hero to a Royal Rumble victory. Sure, it was already announced that Bryan would not compete in the Rumble, but WWE wasn't stupid enough to do that, were they? The event started off well enough, Daniel Bryan faced off against Bray Wyatt and the two workers put on a great match, winning over the crowd and earning Match of the Night honors easily. Sure, Bryan did the job in the middle of the ring but that was no big deal because he was going to win the Royal Rumble, right? The rest of the card was pretty much filler until the world title match between John Cena and Randy Orton. The live crowd completely turned on the match from the outset, never allowing the two guys to even build the match before serenading them with chants of "you both suck" and "we want Bryan". It was fairly clear that the crowd was in open rebellion against having the same guys shoved down their throats for the past ten years. When the Wyatts interfered and ended the match, chants of "thank you Wyatts" echoed through the arena and both Cena and Orton were sent to the back with booing. Finally, the Royal Rumble match started and WWE's chosen hero, Batista, seemed to be the extremely predictable winner. However, the crowd still had faith, Daniel Bryan would make a surprise entrance and clear the ring to win his title shot and they would all be sent home happy...right? So the Rumble match proceeds as designed, Roman Reigns dominates and sets a new elimination record but, through 29 wrestlers, there was still no Daniel Bryan. The crowd that they were still alright though, because #30 was next and they stood as the clock ticked down, ready to blow the roof off of the Consol Energy Center when Daniel Bryan heroically limped out for his chance at Wrestlemania. As the clock hit zero, a silence went over the arena and then Rey Mysterio's music began to play. To say the crowd reacted negatively would be the understatement of the century. The Pittsburgh crowd booed Rey Mysterio like he was 1985 Roddy Piper and now it was open rebellion. The crowd completely turned on the Rumble match, chanting for Daniel Bryan constantly and booing Batista and every turn. When it came down to Roman Reigns against Batista, the crowd decided to back Reigns since he was the new guy and Batista was yet another person who was being shoved down their collective throat. When Batista finally eliminated Reigns, instead of the triumphant celebration he expected, Batista received a huge heel reaction and appeared caught off guard. He flipped off a few fans and mocked the "yes" chant, thus setting in motion his complete failure as a babyface.
