WWE 1998 PPVs From Worst To Best

1. SummerSlam

The Good: There was a lot more good than bad at SummerSlam, which might have had something to do with the MSG setting (Vince takes shows at The Garden very seriously). Match of the night honours had to go to Triple H and The Rock for their superlative ladder match. You could tell watching this that both guys would go on to greatness. Another great stip match was the Lion's Dean outing between Ken Shamrock and Owen Hart. Taking place inside a makeshift Octagon, this was so ahead-of-its-time. Jeff Jarrett against X-Pac (Hair versus Hair) and Val Venis versus D-Lo Brown (European Title) were all good, too. SummerSlam 1998 really had the feeling that it was an important show which you had to see. The Bad: Steve Austin got his bell run early into his main event with The Undertaker, meaning he wasn't all there and the match wasn't as good as it could have been (it was still decent). Mankind's handicap Falls Count Anywhere match against The Outlaws was disappointing, but Mick can be forgiven for taking it easy after Hell in a Cell. The Rest: The Insane Clown Posse, who would actually wrestle for WCW the next year, did a mini-concert before the awful Kaientai versus The Oddities match.
