WWE: 20 Awful Gimmicks That Were Quickly Dropped

6. The Sultan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY_PsdZWIKg The Sultan is one of those rare bad gimmicks that has a WrestleMania match on his resume. It was a character portrayed by Rikishi Fatu, which saw him wear a mask because if he didn't then everybody would know who it was. His run as one of the Headshrinkers was successful, but when he was Fatu "making the difference" it was pretty bad. That gimmick could have made this list. Since The Sultan was worse, I decided to go with that one. As The Sultan, he was this Middle Eastern character that was managed by the crazy heel version of Bob Backlund and The Iron Sheik. In other words, they really tried to get this character over by putting two former World Champions with him. The character never really went very far although he got a decent push in 1997 because they were looking for new heels. Due to the limitations of the gimmick, it was obvious that it wasn't going to last too long. By the way, the WrestleMania match I referred to happened in 1997 at WM13 against The Rock. It was an awful match between a guy that was too green like The Rock and a gimmick in The Sultan that was never going to work no matter who was under the mask.
