12. Shawn Michaels Passes Out

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spmMQLetaIY In 1995, Shawn Michaels was a much different man than the one we know now. He was reluctant to lose titles and rubbed many of his fellow professionals the wrong way. On a night out in Syracuse with Sean Waltman and Davey Boy Smith, Shawn was attacked in the parking lot of a nightclub by a number of €œthugs€ who later turned out to be marines. Supposedly due to the attack, Michaels was forced to give up the Intercontinental Title to Dean Douglas. Not long after on Raw, Shawn Michaels was competing in a match against Owen Hart, when a seemingly normal enziguri kick knocked Michaels out. Shawn collapsed in a heap as everyone acted concerned, including Vince McMahon breaking character to leave commentary to check on him. Rumour has it that only a handful of people knew about the angle, which was played off as entirely legitimate. A lot of people bought it, including 8 year old me getting my first taste of a €œworked shoot€ from the WWE, as they played up the injury over the next few months that Shawn might never wrestle again in a retirement angle that allowed him to take time off after coming back too soon from injury.
