WWE: 20 Changes That MUST Happen On The Road From WrestleMania 30

3. Turn Cena Heel

For years WWE fans have called for a Cena heel turn. Some reports suggest that Cena himself has asked to return to his 'Chain Gang' roots, but in typical WWE style all calls have been ignored and despite dividing its audiences, the icon of John Cena has been thrust upon fans regardless of whether they want it or like it. Similar to Hulk Hogan in the 1990s the whole Cena brand has become annoying and repetitive. It is not only old and tired but has been stretched by the WWE as its biggest cash cow for far too long. Perhaps there is no better time than now to turn Cena into an anti-hero heel. Of course there is no denying that there are still many legions of fans who still invest emotionally and financially into the Cenation concept, but there is equally many legions of fans who upon hearing "Lets go Cena!" respond resolutely with " Cena Sucks!" To allow this polarisation of the WWE fan base to continue whilst promoting Cena as the hero babyface of all is a determined but ultimately foolish feat. The likely result will be Cena becoming a caricature of the man that he wants to portray, a cartoon character that, but for the many "Cena" chanting children, none can take seriously. If Cena is still considered a big time main event player, then he needs change as much, if not moreso, than the wider WWE product. A great opportunity to accomplish a Cena heel turn was overlooked at WrestleMania 30 as Bray Wyatt failed in his bid to turn Cena into a 'monster', but that does not mean that a heel turn cannot be set up for the future. If it was done right, a Cena heel turn could be as historic as the Hogan heel turn in WCW, and would no doubt signal the beginning of a new direction in the WWE.
