WWE 2016 Slammy Award Predictions
8. Surprise Return Of The Year: Seth Rollins At Extreme Rules
Honourable Mentions: Shane McMahon returns to the WWE, The Rock returns at WrestleMania 32.
The obvious winner of the Slammy for Surprise Return of the Year is Shane McMahon. His return to WWE shocked everyone and set WWE in a direction no one would've even considered at the start of the year. However, assuming WWE decide to focus on the wrestlers and not the McMahon family for once then Seth Rollins is a certainty to win.
After Roman Reigns defeated AJ Styles to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event at Extreme Rules, Seth Rollins returned after six months on the shelf, hitting Reigns with a pedigree. The last time Rollins had been seen in the WWE was December 21, 2015 when he accepted the Slammy for Superstar of the Year. Despite being a despicable heel when he suffered his injury, Rollins received a fantastically positive ovation from the audience in attendance. These days WWE tend to announce the return of a big superstar weeks before they come back. This was one instance when they didn't and it made Rollins' return all the more special.
