WWE: 29 Iconic WrestleMania Moments

WrestleMania X-8 - Icon vs Icon

Hogan was supposed to be the bad guy. He and the NWO were invading WWE, and he was bringing a huge, toxic ego with him. Hulkster boasted that he was the biggest star of the past, present, and future, challenging The Rock's current status. The Rock played the babyface well in this scenario, citing his own stint as a little Hulkamaniac. He challenged Hogan to headline one more WrestleMania with him €“ it would be Hogan's first in 9 years, monumental on its own.

They didn't turn out to be the headliners (that spot was given to Triple H and Jericho for the Undisputed WWE Championship), but Hunter and Y2J had no chance of competing with the energy created by Rock/Hogan. Even though Hogan was supposed to be the bad guy, his mere presence at a WrestleMania and his charisma when he entered the ring turned him faster than you can say "New World Order".

This was "Icon vs. Icon", but there was a third, unexpected participant in this match: the fans. I may be a biased Canadian, and I wasn't there, but the Toronto Skydome was deafening. It came across that way on television, so one can only imagine how electric it was in person. This was one of those moments that was highly anticipated, and paid off simply by existing. The finish didn't matter to me, because the moment was already magical.
