WrestleMania V - The Mega Powers Collide

Hogan's back! Randy Savage's reign as champion lasted one year, a year fraught with the soapy drama of the Mega Powers exploding. Citing egotism, paranoia, and jealousy, both parties questioned the others' motives, with the lovely Miss Elizabeth playing the role of neutral Switzerland. By the time WrestleMania V rolled around, my young heart was torn between Savage, whose wrestling I preferred, and Hogan, who was more of a gentleman.

This match made it all too clear who we were meant to cheer for. The Macho Man dusted off his old bad-guy handbook, and then re-wrote it to make Hogan look more heroic than ever. From repeatedly ducking out of the action to look cowardly, to drawing blood from Hogan's forehead, to landing a double-axe handle on Hogan while he was draped on the barricade, to bullying Elizabeth until she vacated the ringside area, to using a foreign object hidden in his trunks, to grabbing a handful of Hogan's tights for a 2-count, Savage was ON.

After Hogan had withstood everything that Savage could have possibly dished out, he started Hulking Up. He resisted each blow and started to shake. "Nobody's ever gotten up from that elbow, Gorilla!" yelled Jesse Ventura. "He's impervious to pain!" proclaimed Monsoon. I had very mixed feelings about this moment, seeing the end of Macho Madness and the return to power for Hogan. When the deed was done, and Hogan had reclaimed the title, Savage stood quietly in the corner. "Macho can hardly believe it," said Gorilla, and in a rare admission of agreement, Jesse replied, "Neither can I."
