WWE: 29 Iconic WrestleMania Moments
WrestleMania VIII - The Heartbreak Kid On The Big Stage
Here's where I hop off into less-charted territory, as for me, the iconic moment from WrestleMania VII had nothing to do with the main event. I know, you say Ric Flair and Randy Savage was the main event, but it just never resonated with me. I only knew Ric Flair from Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazines at that point, and I was sad to see Elizabeth being objectified for the sake of a story (boy, was I going to LOVE the Divas Division!).
You know what stuck with me? The curtain jerk. At first, it seems a little anti-climactic to start the show with El Matador, although I have to say that Tito Santana looks better than ever here, embracing the bullfighter gimmick with poise. But then we hear Sensational Sherri's voice screeching out through the Hoosier Dome: "I think he's cute! I know he's sexy!" Out struts Shawn Michaels, by this point well shod of Marty Janetty. From his ring attire to his smirk, Shawn IS the Heartbreak Kid. He's been given the opportunity to prove his worth as a singles wrestler. He's opening the biggest show of the year. He has Sherri a proven heat-magnet at his side. They announce that Shawn's already thrown out a challenge to the winner of the IC title match. That match was excellent, but not iconic for me. Before the bell has even rung, HBK has his sights set on greater things, and he had me hooked right from the start.
