WrestleMania VII - Savage & Liz Reunite
Around and back again. This was Randy Savage's match against The Ultimate Warrior, and the loser's career would end (interpret that as you may, and they did). At this point in time, Warrior was still a fan favourite, and Savage was reigning as the Macho King with the wily Queen Sherri in his corner.
Three years after Randy had lifted Elizabeth onto his shoulder to celebrate their sweet victory, he had replaced her with Sherri, who had a few minor run-ins with Elizabeth over the years. To the great benefit of this story, Liz had been keeping a very low profile leading up to WrestleMania VII. The camera stays uncharacteristically long on the announce table during Savage's entrance, so that Heenan can "spontaneously" spot Elizabeth sitting ringside. She was a dazzling figure amongst the plainly-dressed folk, and maintained her trademark expression of concern throughout the match. After Savage lost, Sherri berated and abused him in the ring, and Liz sprang into action. The sight of her scooting around the barricade and grabbing Sherri by the hair still thrills me to this day. Savage is astounded by Elizabeth's presence. Elizabeth cries, her arms open in a gesture of vulnerability. "She's loved him from the beginning!" says Gorilla. The entire arena is beside itself with emotion, and when Randy and Liz finally embrace, tears flow down the faces of men and women alike. It is one of the most satisfying moments in my fandom, "if you like this kinda mush" (cheers, Bobby!).
