WWE: 5 Awesome Feuds And 5 That Sucked

4. The Von Erichs vs The Fabulous Freebirds

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeD_UKAXdU8 Being a Texas boy, I'm pretty sure I was mandated to put this feud on this list. It helps that it is one of my favorite feuds of all time, and I have never even really seen all of the components of it. It's that good. Despite their off screen antics, the on air personas of the Von Erich family were that of the babiest of baby faces, and their disintegrating friendship with the Freebirds made for some of the most compelling television in Texas wrestling. Kerry Von Erich's refusal to win the championship through less than clean means, and the subsequent slamming of his head in a cage door ignited a feud which is still talked about in my home state. Long after most of the participants in the feud have passed away, this feud is still one of the most memorable. The boys from Bad Street were the coolest of the cool heels, but when they went mano y mano with the Von Erichs, there was no way they were getting cheered for, no matter how cool they might be. If you don't know anything about this feud, then you may think I am overselling how important and ridiculously popular it was, but you would be wrong. In fact, the Christmas night show which kicked off the feud has been called by some as the greatest hour in the history of wrestling television. That is high praise for any show. The feud also sold out arenas weekly. Yes, weekly. WCCW visited the same venues every week and the feud sold those venues out for over a year. That is the definition of a money drawing feud. I would point you to the David Von Erich Memorial show streetfight in 1984 as one of the matches you should go to for this feud, because as far as emotion goes, it doesn't get much better than seeing a father and 2 sons fight at an event memorializing another son/brother. WCCW was full of tragedy, but the Von Erich vs Freebirds feud is one of the pinnacles of pro wrestling as far as feuds are concerned.
