WWE: 5 Awful Gimmicks That Lasted Longer Than They Should Have

2. The Great Khali: Punjabi Playboy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fro7638L1AU When the Great Khali debuted in the WWE in April 2006, it was as a monster who manhandled and destroyed the Undertaker in a manner that no other individual had ever done before. Two years later, he was dancing around like a joke character, and appearing regularly in a segment known as 'The Khali Kiss Cam' (pictured) whereby a supposedly random member of the audience would be chosen to indulge in a kiss with the giant, as 'The Punjabi Playboy'. Let's face it, Dalip Singh Rana may not be the best technical wrestler in the world (that's being kind, he's terrible) but to expose such a physically imposing man to such an awful gimmick was tragic. And to make matters worse he started to be billed as a jobber, losing matches to men half his size - all the skill in the world shouldn't have realistically allowed that to happen. And the biggest crime about this gimmick? It lasted for nearly 3 years. Thankfully, it's over now, but Khali is still in the WWE losing to opponents that a man of his size should not be losing to. It's hard to believe he's putting up with it. He must be being paid well, that's all I can say.
