WWE: 5 Most Historically Significant Royal Rumble Matches

4. Royal Rumble 2008, Winner: John Cena

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWENgrZleAs Some Royal Rumbles have obvious winners. The 2008 version was not one of them. Emanating from the historic Madison Square Garden (considered the unofficial home of WWE), the 2008 Royal Rumble had plenty of potential victors. Among those picked to win were: Triple H, The Undertaker, Batista, and Shawn Michaels. Yet neither of those great superstars (and former Rumble winners) claimed victory. Instead, the MSG crowd was stunned when eventual winner John Cena entered at number 30. Cena had been sidelined with a vicious pectoral injury since early October of the previous year, and speculation was that he would not be returning for at least another few months. But return he did, eliminating Triple H to win his first Royal Rumble match. For keeping wrestling fans guessing right up until the very end, and then swerving them with a surprise return, the 2008 Royal Rumble takes the number four spot on the list of most historically significant Rumble matches.
