Last night on Monday Night Raw, reigning WWE Champion Dwayne The Rock Johnson FINALLY relieved himself and the WWE of that sparkling monstrosity that the WWE Champion was forced to carry for eight years. He debuted a brand new design for the championship, complete with custom Brahma Bull side-plates to celebrate his own reign. The majority of WWE fans have long called for the end to the Spinner title belt and at long last, WWE have answered. Only three weeks ago I posted an article that argued there was no better time for a new design than now. CM Punks mammoth reign as champion marked the end of a period were the championship was swapped on a bi-monthly basis. Punk aimed to bring credibility back to the WWE and back to the championship and his lengthy reign did just that. This new era and newfound credibility has now been marked with a new championship belt. Over its eight year survival in WWE, thirteen men held the Spinner title belt with the majority of them as memorable champions. However, these five men are perhaps the most unforgettable champions to hold the Spinner design.
5. The Miz
I struggled to decide on fifth spot but eventually The Miz toppled the likes of Triple H, Sheamus and Rob Van Dam. For me, The Miz might not be considered great but he is a great representation of the modern era of WWE. Many disagreed with the decision to put the championship on Miz in 2010 and I was one of them. Ive never been sure The Miz main event calibre; I could never see him being remembered with the likes of Hogan, Michaels and Austin. Its apparent that the WWE writers arent too convinced either as his most recent feud has been with Antonio Cesaro in the mid-card for the United States Championship. Nevertheless, The Miz held the championship on just one occasion for a total of 160 days not a greatly impressive achievement in the titles history but quite remarkable in modern day WWE. In another success story of Money in the Bank winners, The Miz cashed in his contract in November 2010 and subsequently defeated champion Randy Orton for the championship. The former Tough Enough contestant and reality TV star had seemingly shot down his critics and went on to feud with Orton, Jerry Lawler and John Morrison throughout his supremacy. In true Miz fashion, he modified the title belt, inverting the WWE logo to identify his initials. In perhaps his most famous feud with John Cena, the peculiar pairing became Tag Team Champions for a brief moment before The Miz predictably turned on Cena. Miz even went on to successfully defend the championship against Cena at WrestleMania XXVII, following interference by The Rock. Just one month later, The Miz lost the championship to Cena in a triple threat match also featuring John Morrison. He failed to regain the championship on two occasions before joining R-Truth in a tag-team and later becoming Intercontinental Champion.
