Ever since the birth of the Internet wrestling community blurred the lines of kayfabe, it can be hard to distinguish between reality or a 'worked shoot.' Most of us will remember Punk's infamous pipe-bomb promo prior to the Summer of Punk, and at the time most fans weren't sure if it was real or a work, which it eventually turned out to be. It was such a refreshing promo which gave insight to Punk's real frustrations with the WWE, which was largely echoed by most fans. We all know what happened after that: Punk eventually did re-sign with the company and went on to have the longest WWE Championship reign in the modern era, wrestled an amazing match with the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 29 and became a legitimate star in the WWE. Maybe, instead of taking the usual route when resting superstars (kayfabe injury from a heel attack, anyone?) in line with Punk's rebellious, anti-Authority nature, he just went straight home after telling the owner and founder of the company himself without any reservations. That sounds more like Punk and is more believable to the fans than some advertised force of nature putting the Best in the World out of action with a fake injury.
