WWE: 5 Reasons Why John Cena Is Everything That Is Wrong With Professional Wrestling

2. Contrary To Popular Belief, He Doesn't Draw The Crowds

john cena wwe champion As some of you may not be aware, this piece is part of a series of articles in which I have utilized my experiences, both as a lifelong fan and a wannabe superstar, to determine in my opinion what is "bad for business" for the industry as a whole. One of them (which you can read by clicking here) posed this question for the IWC to consider. If Triple H has resided over the most unpopular era in WWE history how exactly is that best for business? And unfortunately for John Cena fans out there, the same rules apply. I don't care how much merchandise the man sells. It has been scientifically proven that anything with bright colours will most likely sell over other less aesthetically enhancing products. I submit to you that with the exact same designs, you could have put any Superstars names on those hyper coloured extensions of his persona and they will have still sold a bucket load. The simple and honest, easily researchable fact about the WWE is that although they are a global brand, the ratings coming from the United States, which is their home market and main source of revenue, has been experiencing all-time lows. The past ten years also saw a fall in attendance levels at live events and this has affected stock prices mostly in the negative. And who exactly has been the face of the WWE in that time, John Cena. Now you can't honestly sit there and tell me that he has the same drawing power as those from a bygone era like the Rock, Stone Cold or Hulk Hogan, when no one is tuning into the product that he represents. In actuality, he is the opposite of these once immortal icons of pro wrestling history. As full blown corporate conglomerates and the legacy of an entire industry were formed thanks to name recognition of these superstars alone. Whereas Cena has done nothing but been instrumental in what has been a catastrophic ratings collapse not seen since WCW's legendary demise. One that has affected the entire industry as a whole, the damage done not just limited to the WWE. So how exactly does that make him a "fan favourite" who can draw in the crowds? It is madness I tell you.

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
