WWE: 5 Reasons Why John Cena Is Everything That Is Wrong With Professional Wrestling

1. Without Risk, There Is No Reward

600x300---The_Rock_vs_John_Cena As previously mentioned, there was in fact a time that the WWE almost ceased to exist. Vince McMahon himself has alluded to this many times, even in his self produced documentary about himself, "McMahon." And in this time period of wrestling history it was only a massive risk on lesser known superstars and a completely new and radical revamp on how the product was sold to the public, did it turn the tide for the WWE and culminated in not only its victory in the Monday Night Wars, but was the entire framework for the model you see today. But as I have said time and time again, if you do not learn from the mistakes of your past then you are doomed to repeat them. And the WWE has been sitting comfortably in the "Cena Zone" now for 10 years. Which unfortunately has left them a little complacent as to what might constitute a success. Granted, it is somewhat different without any credible competition nowadays. But don't forget, it only took the original ECW a matter of months to become a major player in the sports entertainment world. And it will happen again one day. Cena's continued dominance might actually backfire in the long term by creating direct competition as an outlet for disgruntled fans who are sick of what is conceived to be the "norm." Just like they did back in the mid 90's when "the Hitman" was their go to guy and everyone switched channels in droves to catch the latest installment of "WCW Nitro" or to fulfill their need for the Extreme. Now some of you might say that this can only be a good thing. I concur, as credible competition can only be beneficial to us, the wrestling fan. But from a business standpoint, I don't think Vince is looking for another Monday Night War. Regardless of the positives that can come out of this we all know what happens to the loser. And Vince knows that a second battle might not see him come out the victor like last time. The irony of it all is that the WWE are on the verge of, for lack of a better term, a new "Attitude Era," but are seemingly in the same position back when Bret Hart was the face of the company. And considering his actions in regards to that particular Superstar, tells me that Vince McMahon in his old age may have become the biggest Smark of all. As his ultimate reasoning behind the now infamous "Montreal screwjob" have now become the current arguments as to why he should do something about the "Cena enigma" that has plagued his fine programming for ten years now. The fact that he does not follow through with his original convictions when it came to Bret Hart in contrast to John Cena speaks volumes for me.
Vince got rid of Bret Hart because he believed that the "Hitman" was the product of a by gone era that was no longer relevant in what was then modern day professional wrestling. Which when it comes down to it, is pretty much the exact reason why it is time for John Cena to either step back, step down or evolve for the greater good. I mean, come on Vince. How much more like a smark can you be?

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
