WWE: 5 Worst World Champions During The Brand Extension

4. Rob Van Dam

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbL1NvYk9LU "The Whole Dam Show" had a fan friendly in-ring style and was a popular babyface, without a doubt. But to me, his style was too lethargic - in some ways - and not intense or aggressive enough, in my opinion, to convince me that he was a main event, WWE title material superstar. For example, just simple things like the way he throws his punches. The most over he was came during the Invasion angle in mid to late 2001 when he has just joined the WWE. He was so popular, the he was even briefly thrown into the title mix; Losing a triple threat match won by Steve Austin which also included Kurt Angle. Had he won the title around that time, then he might have been more successful and convincing. But after spending the nearly 5 years in between that time and winning the WWE championship in June 2006 largely in the midcards or competing in the tag team division, it was hard to persuade me that he was suddenly a main eventer. Especially after, despite being a babyface, needing the help of Edge to beat John Cena for the title at ECW One Night Stand. Ultimately, his title reign would only last 22 days; He was forced to drop the WWE title (to Edge) on Monday Night Raw in July 2006, due to being suspended for 30 days after being arrested (in real life) for the possession of drugs. Upon completion of his suspension, Van Dam would not receive another main event push before leaving the company approximately a year later.
