WWE: 6 Misconceptions Your Parents Still Have About Wrestling

3. Not To Mention Steroid Junkies

Now this is a big issue, especially to many of our parents after what happened with Chris Benoit, regardless of any official outcome. It all comes back to roid rage to our elders. And as this situation has only been resolved somewhat recently, it will haunt the WWE and professional wrestling for years to come. Sports Entertainment has been synonymous with steroids for a long time now and became a lot more prevalent in the 80's and 90's. As professional wrestling is not classed in the same category as other sports, it has never really been regulated and drug use, especially steroids, became not only accepted, but expected and even promoted. And if there was one good thing about the Chris Benoit situation is that since steroids played a significant part in what the media perceived happened, overnight it became a taboo and now through random drug tests and the implementation of specific health policies within various federations around the world (The WWE enacted the Wellness Policy), it no longer has a place in modern day professional wrestling. But don't try to explain that to the architects of our origin. The funny thing about many parents arguments on the topic is that many of them don't really know anything about the Chris Benoit murders. So their misconceptions on the subject of steroids again stems from the image portrayed throughout the 80's and 90's. Long before Chris Benoit even became popular. Which when you think about everything that has happened in the past decade in regards to this controversial topic makes this argument actually sounds a little silly. Not to mention the simple fact that the biggest wrestler in the world right now is Daniel Bryan, who is a 5ft 10' Vegan and only 200 pounds (around 90 kilos). That in itself blows their dated rhetoric right out of the water.

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
