WWE: 6 Misconceptions Your Parents Still Have About Wrestling

4. Wrestlers Are Oversized Circus Freaks

Let me give you a brief history lesson about professional wrestling. Although originating in Europe in the 19th century, it gained popularity throughout America and the rest of the world via sideshow attractions at various circuses and carnivals. For a long time throughout history before the advent of television professional wrestling was associated with this form of entertainment and lumped in with the rest of the circus performers that made the show the greatest on Earth. And even though television has been around for decades and has drastically changed the image of the professional wrestler, it is as if the naysayers have never heard of this glorious invention when they give you a summary of what they perceive as Sports Entertainment. These guys and girls are still the same old travelling acrobats that are on the same level as circus freaks and card magicians. Nowadays that could not be further from the truth. Although the WWE in itself could be classed as one big circus, the performers themselves are definitely not circus performers. They are highly trained athletes that have spent many years perfecting their craft through rigorous training techniques and a dedication second to none. To be a professional wrestler is unlike anything on the entire planet when it comes to conditioning and requires an amazing amount of dedication just to survive the training alone. They spend 300 days on the road, wrestling four to five times a week with no break. No halftime, no timeouts, no off season, nothing. And a lot of them end up in the grave at an early age because of it. That's right, these people risk life and limb on a daily basis and significantly reduce their life expectancy just for our entertainment. And are not just a bunch of juiced up clowns that is just something for the little kids to enjoy. Which once again, makes a nice segueway into my next point....

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
