To some readers, seeing this name on this list may seem absolutely asinine. People could say "Cm Punk was champion for 434 days! That's being fully pushed!" Yet, a weird anomaly happened when CM Punk finally won the WWE title in November of 2011--he was champion, but he was still the company's number two superstar. Punk's championship matches were the second or third last match on pay per views, and John Cena (despite not having the title) would still wrestle in the main event. When he delivered his now famous "Pipe Bomb" promo in June of 2011, CM Punk made it clear that he was not going to be relegated to the mid card anymore. The fans agreed--"CM Punk" chants soon rang through arenas and sales of his trademark white shirt with red fist went through the roof, even surpassing sales of John Cena t shirts. But the WWE didn't bite the bullet. While CM Punk was defending the title in ****+ classics against Chris Jericho, Daniel Bryan, and Dolph Ziggler, John Cena always got to close out the show--even when wrestling "thrilling" opponents like Big Show and John Laurinaitis. It turns out CM Punk may have been kept down one time too many, because as of press time, Punk, unhappy with his place in WWE, abruptly walked out of the company.
