The June 7th, 2010 Raw had an ending unlike any of the thousands of other episodes. A young, hungry group of rookie superstars known as "The Nexus" didn't just debut, they literally tore things up, as they trashed superstars, ring announcers, and even the WWE ring. The Nexus brought excitement to WWE programming, and reminded a lot of fans of the NWO, with the only difference being that these superstars were making a name through taking over, not taking over after making a name. Their leader was Wade Barrett, and for good reason, as the Brit brought the goods both in the ring and on the mic. The Nexus waged war week after week, interfering in matches and delivering devastating maneuvers like the 450 splash to all who got in their way. The WWE superstars decided the only way to stop The Nexus' onslaught was to team up, and so a 7-on-7 tag team elimination match was signed for Summerslam 2010. The contest was an excellent, back-and-forth affair, which came down to a 2 on 1 situation--Cena against Justin Gabriel and Wade Barrett. After team WWE needing to do everything in their power to eliminate the previous five Nexus competitors, Cena was suddenly able to put away Gabriel and Barrett in the span of about thirty seconds. The clean loss absolutely sabotaged all momentum that The Nexus had built up. Though Barrett got to compete in a few more main events after Summerslam, the heat that he had previously had almost completely dissipated.
