If you asked WWE fans who the best wrestlers in their company are the first two names that come up are usually going to be Daniel Bryan and CM Punk. It's been that way for at least three years, if not more. The roster does have talented people all over, but they are the most complete performers in the company. When you lose a guy with Punk's talent it hurts the entire roster. Raw won't be as good without Punk there. When he was on Smackdown he gave it the energy that it sometimes needed. If you take away somebody like that there is definitely going to be an effect on the rest of the show. Think of it like a sports team losing a key player to injury. That's what this is, although it could be considered to be more of a contract dispute. Point is that when you lose one of your top players the team usually doesn't perform as well. Right now WWE officials are trying to figure out what to do. You don't have CM Punk anymore. You may never have him back. Who steps up? What storyline excuse can you make, if any? When Steve Austin left WWE in 2002 he regretted it. He's said that many times over the years. He was at a similar point in his career. Both were past 35 years old. Austin realized it was wrong because he knew that you only have so much time in the wrestling business. You're not going to want to embarrass yourself at 50 years old. Go hard from your early 20s into your 30s and if you're lucky then into your 40s, but at that point it's going to end. Austin lost a part of his career because he chose to walk away. While I'm not saying Austin was wrong to walk away (it was stupid to have him lose to Lesnar with no build), he is right in that it was a big mistake in his career. There is a chance that Punk can come back. It could even be a work although that seems to be unlikely at this point. If Punk did return, hopefully it's for the right reasons and that he realizes that when you're a top guy it doesn't last forever. You have to capitalize on it while you're in that spot because if you lose it who knows if you will ever get it back. CM Punk is legitimately one of the best wrestlers in the world. Leaving while he is in a position like that is the wrong move and we can only hope that he realizes it soon so that he can come back to do what he does best.
