WWE: 6 Wrestlers Who Are Unfairly Hated

1. John Cena

John Cena. The 14-time world champion. The face of the WWE, and the Hulk Hogan of his day. His motto is simple. Never Give Up. He's the Superman of the WWE, and is surrounded by darker, more mature anti-heroes. But much like the Man of Steel, he never wavers in the face of fans who counteract chants of "Let's Go Cena!" with "Cena Sucks!" He's battled with a crowd of 80,000 plus telling him he can't wrestle, been booed against opponents who even insulted the armed forces before the match and never broke a sweat when fans were clearly on the side of the Rock at both of their WrestleMania matches. Pressure? To John Cena? Laughable. There was a time when Cena would very nearly outpop Stone Cold Steve Austin. Believe it or not, there was a time when Cena didn't get the mixed reaction he gets now. And ironically, Cena is in a similar position as Hogan was. Back before Hogan formed the NWO in 1996, he was heavily booed by WCW crowds. This was even happening to him in WWE just before he left for WCW. Hogan underwent a change of character, turned heel and became even bigger than he ever was before. Fans are constantly saying the same thing about Cena, and it always leads to the same thing. "Turn him heel." There's a fundamental issue with that, however. Fans boo Cena because they want him to be a bad guy, and they don't like his boyscout character. They essentially want Cena to turn heel so they can cheer him. What do you think the other side of the fence is going to do? They're going to boo him. So, by turning him heel, you essentially just bring him right back to where he was, a wrestler who gets a mixed reaction. There's a selfishness to these people, who seem to want to take the hero of all the children in the audience away so they can cheer a bad guy. While it would make for great television, it ultimately accomplishes nothing aside from maybe popping a rating and some new, evil Cena t-shirts. Cena is savaged by the internet for various claims of him not being able to wrestle, something that is clearly untrue. He's also a target of fans who are against his "childish" and "juvenile" promo work of the last several years. They dislike Cena because they want something more mature and adult-oriented. Down with PG! Bring back the Attitude Era, where...yeah, where things were childish and juvenile. Cena is ultimately hated for "poopy jokes", yet they'll give anything to hear Rock call someone a "popcorn fart" one more time. I have nothing against The Rock, but this is still kind of absurd. Double standards, folks. You gotta love 'em. Now, obviously, as I said, a wrestling audience pays to say whatever they want. They're free to do so, and I'd never try to tell an audience member what they can and can't say. So sound off in the comments, and let me know how much you hate anybody on this list. Having a voice of your own is the best part about being a fan of this great business.
