WWE: 7 Matches That Were Too Painful To Watch

2. Triple H Tears His Quad - Raw May 2001

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrcVqnIa0rA When Triple H tore his quad in one of the greatest matches in Raw history (Benoit & Jericho over Austin & Triple H), it was one of the most gruesome injuries in the history of wrestling. It was one of those freak injuries. It was a routine move where he was delivering a forearm shot to the back of Jericho and as he planted his left leg, his quad muscle completely ripped off the bone. What's amazing is that the match didn't end there. Hunter continued on as he did one final spot with Jericho that saw Jericho apply the Walls of Jericho while they were on the announce table. In hindsight it was probably not the smartest move to do when a guy hurt his leg seriously, but they did it anyway. That's what tough guys do. They find a way to finish the match the way they're supposed to. Watching it live back then, the immediate reaction is that WWE lost one of their top guys and the hope was that it wasn't a serious injury. Hunter ended up missing nearly eight full months of action until he returned at the 2002 Royal Rumble. In other words, it was a very serious injury. Hunter's absence in the second half of 2001 was a big deal because it was a crucial year for WWE with the WCW/ECW Invasion storyline. It would have been better if Hunter was around because he was a top guy that always performed at a high level. One thing is for sure. Triple H gained a lot of respect that night for working through the major injury and finishing the match.
