NXT Champion Bo Dallas has gone from one of the worst wrestlers on the roster to a good one, all with one gimmick change. That's what a character can do for you. As some will recall, he has already been called up once, and made his debut at the 2013 Royal Rumble. He proceeded to eliminate Wade Barrett at that match, defeat him the following night on Raw (when Wade was the Intercontinental Champion) and then vanished from the face of the earth. Why is that? Well, no one cared about him at all, as he was a generic smiling babyface. He couldn't cut a promo to save his life, and he was horrible. But then, well, I'm not sure who had the idea (may have been Triple H, Dusty Rhodes, or someone else who works down in NXT), but this person deserves a ton of credit. Because they made a horrible guy great, by portraying him as horrible. Bo's new gimmick is a work of art, in my opinion. It's very subtle, but basically it's the following: he portrays a guy who acts exactly like a clear cut babyface; smiling all the time and cutting corny promos with corny catchphrases, while everyone in the crowd loathes him. But subtly, they worked that into his character. This guy's heel gimmick is that he's a top face who nobody can stand anymore; very similar to John Cena. This gimmick works wonders; he acts like the crowd loves him when obviously it's not the case. Not just great for comedy purposes, as the crowd seriously despises this man and what makes it better is that he's the champion, so everyone is crossing their fingers for the day that someone finally beats Bo Dallas. It's clear that a few people with influence in the company are fans of Dallas (Big Show is one of them), and he's a young guy, so I'm sure he's going to get called up and pushed. Plus, he's the NXT champion, and they tend to be called up while they still hold the belt. On his first call up, he was terrible. But if somehow, they find a way to make his current gimmick work on the main roster, I would be all for it. This is a man whose career was saved by this character, I believe, and they should go for it on the big stage.
