https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iyr7C1xdv8 Does anyone remember this moment (cut to 2:25)? I certainly do. For it heralded a possibly change of ownership in the coming years and gave us all hope for the future as no one was more beloved for both his wrestling ability and the work he did behind the scenes than Shane O'Mac. He was the epitome of everything that was great about Vince McMahon but seemingly devoid of the flaws that quite possibly could be described as "megalomaniacal" and "tyrannical" that has plagued Vince for his illustrious career. He knew the business, he knew what made money, he knew how to come up with engrossing storylines. He was what the WWE both needed AND wanted. Then along came Trips. Suddenly, we start to see Shane less and less backstage. Although he did have a memorable feud with Kane and was instrumental in the DX reformation and his fathers ECW championship run, his presence when it came to the running of day to day operations became more or less non existent as soon as Steph popped out a Helmsley baby. All of which eventually led to Shane McMahon, supposed heir to the WWE throne and everyone's favourite son, LEAVING the company in 2010 by his own accord. While Triple H went on to become COO or whatever non televised equivalent it may be. He effectively BURIED SHANE McMAHON. Tell me I am wrong? This whole behind the scenes saga is without a shadow of a doubt (in my eyes anyway) the only proof that is needed when it comes to my argument behind my belief that he slept his way to the top. At Wrestlemania 20 we were promised a new beginning, headed by the man whom was willing to do an elbow drop from 60 feet off the titantron,. But Trips had plans of his own and with the manipulation of Vince by not only his little girl (obviously) but by the sperm that was delivered into her womb actually made Shane quit the business he was told he was going to inherit. What kind of madness is that? And apparently we all turned off as a result because the ratings haven't even come close to matching what they once were. So there it is. I don't care whether you love the guy or despise him. The facts are facts and once they are on paper (or the internet) for you to step back and take a non biased look from afar there is no way in hell that you could come up with any other conclusion other than he is one of, if not, the most overrated wrestler in the history of the business. Or as Bret Hart, an actual legend (and I don't even like him that much either) likes to say, a "4 out of 10." Which is a rating that tells us he is mediocre at best, definitely below average and hardly makes for a career worthy of Hall of Fame honours. A "catchphrase" that has been used a lot lately is "what's best for business." Well, if Triple H has resided over the most unpopular era in WWE history how exactly is that best for business? Let me tell you what I think. BRING BACK SHANE O' MAC, BRING BACK SHANE O'MAC (I sincerely hope this idea for a chant goes viral and we here it every time Trips enters the ring). Although unlikely nowadays, one can only dream.
Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life????
