5. Arachnaman
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2XN7MfiE4M Subtlety is never really the strong suit of professional wrestling, but this is perhaps the worst rip off ever. Talented journeyman pro wrestler Brad Armstrong (brother of the Road Dogg) donned the spandex and horribly coloured rip off Spider-Man suit of Arachnaman. On his TV debut Arachman wrestled Doug Summers and came to the ring and ripped silly string out of his hands which was supposed to look like webbing. Instead of red and blue, the Amazing Arachnaman wore yellow/ gold and purple, two of the brightest, ugliest colours imaginable especially put against the backdrop of dark and dank early 90's WCW. To be fair to Brad Armstrong, he puts a lot of effort in and even has the crowd behind him at some points. His small poses and attention to detail do have to be admired when another performer could have went out there feeling down and just went through the motions. Perhaps with a few tweaks, and maybe if the gimmick was inspired by Spiderman and not a blatant rip off, it could have worked for Armstrong. Sadly for Brad Armstrong and thankfully for WCW, Arachnaman did not last long as the character was quickly dropped after Marvel Comics would threaten legal action. Armstrong would go on to use his real identity and win the WCW Light Heavyweight title from Scotty Flamingo and remain with WCW until 1995. His theme music was pretty cool though.
