WWE: 8 Active Former World Champions Who Will Never Have Another Reign
8. Dolph Ziggler
I know everyone loves the Showoff, and rightfully so. He is one of the hardest working stars on the roster and always gets a loud reaction, none louder than the infamous night after WrestleMania 29 when he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and won the World Heavyweight Title from Alberto Del Rio. Unfortunately that title reign was cut short by a legitimate concussion and may in fact be his last. Ziggler's first title "win" was actually in January 2011 where then GM Vickie Guerrero literally handed him the World Heavyweight Title. The worst possible way to win a belt in wrestling, WWE actually acknowledges this as an official reign! Worse still Ziggler lost that title barely ten minutes later in an actual match against Edge, thus ending one of the shortest, most credibility harming reigns in recent memory. Despite winning the World Heavyweight Championship in a proper match two years later, and holding onto it for longer than one television episode, Dolph Ziggler failed to regain his momentum after coming back from his concussion, and lost the title back to Del Rio in his first defense. He was then taken out of the title hunt and thrown into a forgettable break up storyline with onscreen girlfriend AJ Lee, who was represented in the ring by bodyguard Big E. In 2014 Big E is Intercontinental Champion and Ziggler is working PPV kickoff matches. I suppose it's always possible that WWE may reward Ziggler with one more chance at holding the Championship, after all they're going to need new challengers in the post WrestleMania season. But given the unfortunate circumstances of his first two reigns, they may well want to keep him as far away from the belt as possible.
As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG.
I may have a problem!
But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
