WWE: 8 Active Former World Champions Who Will Never Have Another Reign
7. Rey Mysterio
Mysterio had two runs with the World Heavyweight Championship. His first was in 2006 when he won the big gold belt at WrestleMania 22, although the reign was underwhelming due to the constant references to the recently deceased Eddie Guerrero, and the staggering amount of clean jobs the "Champion" did in non-title matches. His second run in 2010 was entirely forgettable after WWE rushed the title onto Kane to promote his feud with the Undertaker (more later). Rey even held the WWE Championship in 2011, after winning a tournament to crown a new champion after CM Punk left the company with the original belt. Unfortunately Rey lost the title that very same night to John Cena, who continued his feud with Punk, leaving Mysterio completely forgotten. I'm confused just typing that! Throughout his WWE career Rey Mysterio has been consistently popular with the fans and management. He lacks the size synonymous with WWE Superstars and his first reign was more of an extended tribute to Eddie Guerrero. Even then he still managed to win Championships in 2010 and 2011. Alas in 2014 Rey is older, slower, and worn down by knee injuries that will never truly heal so long as he keeps wrestling at the pace he has been going for the last two decades. Worse still, in his twelve years in WWE he has done everything except lose his mask or turn heel. There is no reason to give Rey another title run, nor sadly for him to be on the full-time roster.
As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG.
I may have a problem!
But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
